This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“Be silent before Me, you islands!
Let the nations renew their strength!
Let them come forward and speak;
let us meet together at the place of judgment.[1]
Listen to Me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord:[2]
Listen to Me, My people; hear Me, My nation:[3]
Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord,
who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on Earth,
for in these I delight.[4]
Here is My Servant, whom I uphold, My chosen One in whom I delight.[5]
This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.
Listen to Him![6]
There is nothing false about Him.[7]
I will put My Spirit on Him and He will bring justice to the nations.[8]
In faithfulness He will bring forth justice;
He will not falter or be discouraged till He establishes justice on Earth.
In His law the islands will put their hope.[9]
These are the words of the Son of God,
whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.[10]
Here I am![11]
I tell you the truth.[12]
I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.[13]
I am the Light of the World.
Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the Light of Life.[14]
Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.[15]
All men will hate you because of Me.[16]
The law will go out from Me; My justice will become a light to the nations.
My righteousness draws near speedily,
My salvation is on the way, and My arm will bring justice to the nations.
The islands will look to Me and wait in hope for My arm.[17]
You must follow Me.[18]
I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from Me there is no Saviour.[19]
No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.[20]
These are the words of Him who is the First and the Last,
who died and came to life again.[21]
I am the Resurrection and the Life.[22]
I am the Living One;
I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever![23]
See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare;
before they spring into being I announce them to you.[24]
This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time …[25]
It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt …[26]
I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts.[27]
I will open My mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.[28]
All your sons will be taught by the Lord,
and great will be your children’s peace.[29]
Wisdom is proved right by all her children.[30]
Those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil;
and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit,
thirty, sixty and a hundredfold.[31]
The seed is the word of God.[32]
The words I have spoken to you are S/spirit and they are life.[33]
Therefore consider carefully how you listen.[34]
These are the words of Him who holds the seven stars in His right hand
and walks among the seven golden lampstands:[35]
I am the Living Bread that came down from Heaven.
This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.[36]
I am the Bread of Life.[37]
For My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink.[38]
Take and eat; this is My body …
Drink from it, all of you.
This is My blood of the New Covenant,
which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.[39]
Your covenant with death will be annulled;
your agreement with the grave will not stand.[40]
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through Him.
Whoever believes in Him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because he has not believed in the Name of God’s one and only Son.[41]
For My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son
and believes in Him shall have eternal life,
and I will raise him up at the last day.[42]
My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the One who glorifies Me.[43]
Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in Him.
If God is glorified in Him, God will glorify the Son in Himself,
and will glorify Him at once.[44]
Father, the time has come.[45]
Father, glorify Your Name![46]
I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on
until that day when I drink it anew with you in My Father’s kingdom.[47]
I am making everything new![48]
These are the words of Him who holds the sevenfold Spirit of God
and the seven stars.[49]
I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.[50]
This is what is written:
The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His Name
to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.[51]
And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.[52]
So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.[53]
Even on My servants, both men and women,
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.[54]
God is Spirit.[55]
And I will ask the Father,
and He will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever -
the Spirit of Truth.[56]
When the Counsellor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father,
the Spirit of Truth who goes out from the Father,
He will testify about Me.
And you also must testify, for you have been with Me from the beginning.[57]
Receive the Holy Spirit.
If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven;
if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.[58]
My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.[59]
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.[60]
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth.[61]
And this Gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world
as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.[62]
I tell you the truth, wherever this Gospel is preached throughout the world,
what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.[63]
She has done a beautiful thing to Me.[64]
I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven - for she loved much.[65]
These are the words of Him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.[66]
Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is close at hand
and My righteousness will soon be revealed.[67]
Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.[68]
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be sons of your Father in Heaven.[69]
Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.[70]
Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.[71]
Go and learn what this means:[72]
I desire mercy, not sacrifice,
and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings.[73]
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.[74]
Administer justice every morning;
rescue from the hand of his oppressor the one who has been robbed,
or My wrath will break out and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done.[75]
But you have neglected the more important matters of the law
– justice, mercy and faithfulness and the love of God.[76]
For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.[77]
Take away the stone.[78]
Leave them; they are blind guides.[79]
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness,
the Ruler of God’s Creation.[80]
The Lord brought Me forth as the first of His works,
before His deeds of old;
I was appointed from eternity,
from the beginning, before the world began.[81]
I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am![82]
You are right in saying I am a King.
In fact, for this reason I was born,
and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.[83]
Lift up your eyes to the Heavens, look at the Earth beneath;
the Heavens will vanish like smoke,
the Earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies.
But My salvation will last forever, My righteousness will never fail.[84]
My righteousness will last forever, My salvation through all generations.[85]
Heaven and Earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.[86]
Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.[87]
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.[88]
I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;
I will take hold of your hand.[89]
I am with you and will save you.
I will discipline you but only with justice;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished.[90]
I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line.[91]
I am the Good Shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me.[92]
You My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, are people, and I am your God.[93]
I will shepherd the flock with justice.[94]
For I, the Lord, love justice.[95]
These are the words of Him who is holy and true,
who holds the key of David.[96]
I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.
I will rebuild you up again, and you will be rebuilt.[97]
I will betroth you to Me forever;
I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion.
I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.[98]
Listen![99]
Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream![100]
Test Me in this, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of Heaven
and pour out so much blessing
that you will not have room enough for it.[101]
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.[102]
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.[103]
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.[104]
For behold, the Kingdom of God is within you and in your midst.[105]
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds;
and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.[106]
And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones,
who cry out to Him day and night?
Will He keep putting them off?
I tell you, He will see that they get justice, and quickly.
However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the Earth?[107]
If He comes suddenly, do not let Him find you sleeping.[108]
Wake up![109]
Why are you sleeping?[110]
Could you men not keep watch with Me for one hour?[111]
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.[112]
But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief,
and you will not know at what time I will come to you.[113]
Yes, I am coming soon.[114]
But when I, the Son of Man, return,
how many will I find on the Earth who have faith?[115]
My reward is with Me,
and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.[116]
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded;
and from the one who has been entrusted with much,
much more will be asked.[117]
An eagle is over the house of the Lord
because the people have broken My covenant
and rebelled against My law.[118]
Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit
and understand what He is saying to the churches.[119]
Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,
as you did that day at Massah in the desert.[120]
Consider carefully what you hear.
With the measure you use, it will be measured to you - and even more.[121]
The Lord is in His holy temple; let all the Earth be silent before Him.[122]
I am the Lord, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator, your King.[123]
Listen, listen to Me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.[124]
Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.[125]
I, Wisdom, dwell together with Prudence;
I possess knowledge and discretion.[126]
My fruit is better than fine gold;
what I yield surpasses choice silver.[127]
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.[128]
Give ear and come to Me; hear Me, that your soul may live.[129]
The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given
- and you will receive even more.[130]
Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.[131]
Now will I arise.
Now will I be exalted; now will I be lifted up.[132]
I have seen the violence done to the helpless,
and I have heard the groans of the poor.
Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for Me to do.[133]
I have looked upon My people, for their cry has reached Me.[134]
For a long time I have kept silent,
I have been quiet and held Myself back.[135]
All day long I have held out My hands to an obstinate people,
who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations -
a people who continually provoke Me to My very face.[136]
I will remain quiet and will look on from My dwelling place,
like shimmering heat in the sunshine,
like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.[137]
But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant.[138]
For day after day they seek Me out;
they seem eager to know My ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask Me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near them.[139]
These people come near to Me with their mouth
and honour Me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from Me.
Their worship of Me is made up only of rules taught by men.[140]
But did not My words and My decrees,
which I commanded My servants the prophets,
overtake your forefathers?[141]
When you come to appear before Me, who has asked this of you,
this trampling of My courts?[142]
Take off your sandals,
for the place where you are standing is holy ground.[143]
Observe My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary.
I am the Lord.[144]
Among those who approach Me I will show Myself holy;
in the sight of all people I will be honoured.[145]
I will not yield My glory to another.[146]
I the Lord am holy – I who make you holy.[147]
Whom are you mocking?
At whom do you sneer and stick out your tongue?[148]
How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?
If you had responded to My rebuke,
I would have poured out My heart to you
and made My thoughts known to you.[149]
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.
As the Heavens are higher than the Earth,
so are My ways higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts.[150]
Call to Me and I will answer you
and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.[151]
Blessed is the man who listens to Me,
watching daily at My doors, waiting at My doorway.[152]
Here I am!
I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.[153]
I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me;
I was found by those who did not seek Me.
To a nation that did not call on My Name,
I said, ‘Here am I, here am I.’[154]
I have revealed and saved and proclaimed -
I, and not some foreign god among you.[155]
Listen, for I have worthy things to say;
I open My lips to speak what is right.[156]
Counsel and sound judgment are Mine;
I have understanding and power.[157]
Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.[158]
But you did not listen to Me,
and you have provoked Me with what your hands have made,
and you have brought harm to yourselves.[159]
Since you rejected Me when I called
and no one gave heed when I stretched out My hand,
since you ignored all My advice and would not accept My rebuke,
I in turn will laugh at your disaster;
I will mock when calamity overtakes you -
when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.[160]
Even now, return to Me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.[161]
Repent and do the things you did at first.
If you do not repent,
I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.[162]
So be earnest, and repent.[163]
If only you had paid attention to My commands,
your peace would have been like a river,
your righteousness like the waves of the sea.[164]
But you have not listened to Me.[165]
See how each of you is following the stubbornness of his evil heart
instead of obeying Me.[166]
In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it.[167]
And now what do I have here?[168]
My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.[169]
For My people have been taken away for nothing,
and those who rule them mock.
And all day long My Name is constantly blasphemed.[170]
My people, what have I done to you?
How have I burdened you?
Answer Me.[171]
Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me.[172]
Whom have you so dreaded and feared that you have been false to Me,
and have neither remembered Me nor pondered this in your hearts?[173]
What fault did your fathers find in Me, that they strayed so far from Me?[174]
Do not My words do good to him whose ways are upright?[175]
Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear Me?[176]
Lately My people have risen up like an enemy.[177]
No more of this![178]
Therefore this is what I will do to you, and because I will do this you,
prepare to meet your God.[179]
You only have I chosen of all the families of the Earth;
therefore I will punish you for all your sins.[180]
There is no peace for the wicked.[181]
I Myself am against you,
and I will inflict punishment on you in sight of all the nations.
Because of all your detestable idols,
I will do to you what I have never done before and will never do again.[182]
For then there will be great distress,
unequalled from the beginning of the world until now -
and never to be equalled again.[183]
What is My beloved doing in My temple
as she works out her evil schemes with many?[184]
Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here.[185]
Do you see this, son of man?[186]
With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves
to their own destruction.[187]
How long will they be incapable of purity?[188]
Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it?
Or an image that teaches lies?[189]
You have forsaken your first love.[190]
Consider this, you who forget God.[191]
I am against you.
I will lift up your skirts over your face.
I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame.[192]
Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumour upon rumour.
They will try to get a vision from the prophet;
the teaching of the law by the priest will be lost,
as will the counsel of the elders.
The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair,
and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.
I will deal with them according to their conduct,
and by their own standards I will judge them.[193]
Have you not brought this on yourselves
by forsaking the Lord your God when He led you in the way?[194]
Are My ways unjust?
Is it not your ways that are unjust?[195]
Let him who accuses God answer Him![196]
You have said harsh things against Me.[197]
I tell you that men will have to give an account
on the day of judgment for every careless
and idle word they have spoken.[198]
Who is like Me and who can challenge Me?[199]
Who then is able to stand against Me?[200]
And what shepherd can stand against Me?[201]
I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for My flock.[202]
My anger burns against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders.[203]
I trained them and strengthened them, but they plot evil against Me.
They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow.[204]
How long will you refuse to keep My commands and My instructions?[205]
What right have you to recite My laws or take My covenant on your lips?
You hate My instruction and cast My words behind you.[206]
Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you.[207]
The priests did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord?’
Those who deal with the law did not know Me;
the leaders rebelled against Me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal, following worthless idols.[208]
They dress the wound of My people as though it were not serious.
‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.[209]
They feed on the sins of My people and relish their wickedness.[210]
They do not know how to do right,
who hoard plunder and loot in their fortresses.[211]
It is you who have ruined My vineyard;
the plunder from the poor is in your houses.[212]
But I know where you stay and when you come and go
and how you rage against Me.[213]
Yet in spite of all this you say, ‘I am innocent; He is not angry with me.’[214]
‘O our God, we acknowledge You!’[215]
This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can.[216]
Why is My language not clear to you?
Because you are unable to hear what I say.[217]
I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.[218]
You have never heard His voice nor seen His form,
nor does His word dwell in you, for you do not believe the One He sent.[219]
But you have turned from the way
and by your teaching have caused many to stumble;
you have violated the covenant.[220]
Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as My priests;
because you have ignored the law of your God,
I also will ignore your children.
The more the priests increased, the more they sinned against Me;
they exchanged their Glory for something disgraceful.[221]
Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.)
But My people have exchanged their Glory for worthless idols.[222]
So they will fall among the fallen;
they will be brought down when I punish them.[223]
Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down.[224]
Why do you bring charges against Me?
You have all rebelled against Me.[225]
You are a stumbling block to Me;
you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.[226]
You are seeing things merely from a human point of view,
not from God’s.[227]
You diligently study the Scriptures
because you think that by them you possess eternal life.
These are the Scriptures that testify about Me,
yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.[228]
How can you believe if you accept praise from one another,
yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?[229]
But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler.[230]
And it will be: Like people, like priests.
I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.[231]
Then they will know that I am the Lord.[232]
My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken Me, the Spring of Living Water,
and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.[233]
In the light of these things, should I relent?[234]
Should I not punish them for this?
Should I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?[235]
It is Mine to avenge; I will repay.[236]
For the Lord has a case against His people;
He is lodging a charge against them.[237]
For My own Name’s sake I delay My wrath;
for the sake of My praise I hold it back from you,
so as not to cut you off.[238]
None of My words will be delayed any longer;
whatever I say will be fulfilled.[239]
Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.[240]
Therefore wait for Me, for the day I will stand up to testify.[241]
I will expose your righteousness and your works,
and they will not benefit you.[242]
I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.[243]
For a fire has been kindled by My wrath,
one that burns to the realm of death below.
It will devour the Earth and its harvests
and set afire the foundations of the mountains.[244]
Then My anger will cease and My wrath against them will subside,
and I will be avenged.
And when I have spent My wrath upon them,
they will know that I the Lord have spoken in My zeal.[245]
I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields!
They are ripe for harvest.[246]
The time is ripe for My people; I will spare them no longer.
In that day, the songs in the temple will turn to wailing.
Many, many bodies - flung everywhere![247]
Have you any right to be angry?[248]
Would you discredit My justice?
Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?[249]
Silence![250]
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the Earth.[251]
See now that I Myself am He!
There is no god besides Me.
I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal,
and no one can deliver out of My hand.[252]
I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the Lord, do all these things.[253]
Who has a claim against Me that I must pay?
Everything under Heaven belongs to Me.[254]
But whoever listens to Me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm.[255]
Yet a time is coming and has now come
when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth,
for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks.[256]
To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths,
who choose what pleases Me and hold fast to My covenant -
to them I will give within My temple and its walls
a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.
And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to serve Him,
to love the Name of the Lord, and to worship Him,
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it
and who hold fast to My covenant -
these I will bring to My holy mountain
and give them the joy in My house of prayer.[257]
For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.[258]
He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father,
who sent Him.[259]
For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does.[260]
I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me find Me.[261]
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.[262]
For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant,
and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors.[263]
They will be Mine, in the day when I make up My treasured possession.
I will spare them,
just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him.
And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked,
between those who serve God and those who do not.[264]
I tell you the truth,
anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing.
He will do even greater things than these,
because I am going to the Father.[265]
With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles;
he sees the form of the Lord.[266]
Do not touch My anointed ones; do My prophets no harm.[267]
For I will bring disaster on all people,
but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.[268]
I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen.[269]
You do not want to leave too, do you?[270]
I tell you the truth, one of you will betray Me.[271]
It would be better for him if he had not been born.[272]
You who are far away, hear what I have done;
you who are near, acknowledge My power![273]
Therefore once more I will astound these people
with wonder upon wonder;
the wisdom of the wise will perish,
the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.[274]
I will do this to recapture the hearts of My people,
who have all deserted Me for their idols.[275]
Do not pray for these people nor offer any plea or petition for them,
because I will not listen when they call to Me in the time of their distress.[276]
But tell them this:
‘These gods, who did not make the Heavens and the Earth,
will perish from the Earth and from under the Heavens.’[277]
Now then, listen, you wanton creature,
lounging in your security and saying to yourself,
‘I am, and there is none besides me.
I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.’[278]
You said, ‘I will continue forever - the eternal queen!’[279]
Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries,
which you have laboured at since childhood.[280]
Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away.
A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom;
a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.[281]
Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.[282]
Look! Disaster is spreading from nation to nation;
a mighty storm is rising from the ends of the Earth.[283]
The rain came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against that house,
and it fell with a great crash.[284]
The Lord’s chosen ally will carry out His purpose against Babylon;
His arm will be against the Babylonians.[285]
The great day of the Lord is near - near and coming quickly.[286]
If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive,
but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.[287]
I have commanded My holy ones;
I have summoned My warriors to carry out My wrath -
those who rejoice in My triumph.[288]
I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
I have exalted a young man from among the people.[289]
There is no one on Earth like him;
he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.[290]
See, I have made him a witness to the peoples,
a leader and commander of the peoples.[291]
This is the one I esteem:
he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at My word.[292]
See, My servant will act wisely;
he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.[293]
He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him.
Because he loves Me, I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges My Name.[294]
He will rebuild My city and set My exiles free,
but not for a price or reward.[295]
I will bring him, and he will succeed in his mission.[296]
Yet I reserve seven thousand -
all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal
and all whose mouths have not kissed him.[297]
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?[298]
Have I not chosen you?[299]
Stand up![300]
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.[301]
For many are called, but few are chosen.[302]
You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt,
and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.[303]
I took you from the ends of the Earth, from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, ‘You are My servant’;
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.[304]
Gather to Me My consecrated ones,
who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.[305]
Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the Earth -
everyone who is called by My Name.[306]
See, they will come from afar –
some from the north, some from the west.[307]
I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.[308]
They are the shoot I have planted, the work of My hands,
for the display of My splendour.[309]
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?[310]
Daughters of Jerusalem,[311]
do you truly love Me more than these?[312]
Will you really lay down your life for Me?[313]
Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?[314]
I, even I, am He who comforts you.[315]
Who is it you want?
I told you that I am He.[316]
I am the Lord your God.[317]
Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.[318]
Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.[319]
Go now and leave your life of sin.[320]
I broke the bars of your yoke
and enabled you to walk with heads held high.[321]
Even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.[322]
Come up here.[323]
Walk on ahead of the people.[324]
Be strong and courageous,
because you will lead these people to inherit the land
I swore to their forefathers to give them.[325]
Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all My people,
so they may know that I am with you.[326]
Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.[327]
Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’
You must go to everyone I send you to
and say whatever I command you.[328]
Go now to the house of God and speak My words to them.
You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of God -
not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language,
whose words you cannot understand.
Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you.
But the house of God is not willing to listen to you
because they are not willing to listen to Me,
for the whole house of God is hardened and obstinate.
But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are.
I will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint.
Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them,
though they are a rebellious house.[329]
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you.[330]
No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.[331]
Do you believe that I am able to do this?[332]
Believe Me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father
neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.[333]
Do you believe this?[334]
You believe at last![335]
Woman, you have great faith![336]
Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.[337]
You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you.[338]
Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.[339]
I will overthrow what I have built
and uproot what I have planted, throughout the land.
Should you then seek great things for yourself?
Seek them not.[340]
Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses,
while this house remains a ruin?[341]
Give careful thought to your ways.[342]
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for Me will find it.[343]
Stay here and keep watch with Me.[344]
I have made you a watchman for the house of God;
so hear the word I speak and give them warning from Me.[345]
Be on guard! Be alert![346]
For I am watching to see that My word is fulfilled.[347]
Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy;
do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.[348]
You are not to be like that.[349]
Be strong and very courageous.[350]
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.[351]
Do not let this Book of Law depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.[352]
Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning.[353]
Get yourself ready!
Stand up and say to them whatever I command you.
Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.[354]
Who gave man his mouth?
Who makes him deaf or mute?
Who gives him sight or makes him blind?
Is it not I, the Lord?
Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.[355]
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.[356]
I have put My words in your mouth
and covered you with the shadow of My hand.[357]
Just say whatever is given you at the time,
for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.[358]
Come near Me and listen to this:[359]
Go, consecrate the people.[360]
Now then, you and all these people,
get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give them.[361]
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.[362]
See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands,
along with its king and its fighting men.[363]
Every man straight in.[364]
Do not be afraid of them;
I have given them into your hand.
Not one of them will be able to withstand you.[365]
Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.[366]
For the battle is not yours, but God’s.[367]
Have I not commanded you?[368]
Go throughout the city of Jerusalem
and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament
over all the detestable things that are done in it.[369]
Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understanding;
those who err in mind will know the truth;
those who complain will accept instruction.[370]
For what they were not told, they will see,
and what they have not heard, they will understand.[371]
Take up your positions around Babylon, all you who draw the bow.
Shoot at her!
Spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.[372]
Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go![373]
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven;
whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven,
and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven.[374]
Loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free and break every yoke.[375]
Bind up the injured and strengthen the weak.[376]
I will make you like My signet ring, for I have chosen you.[377]
Now if you obey Me fully and keep My covenant,
then out of all nations you will be My treasured possession.[378]
If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on My holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honourable,
and if you honour it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
then you will find your joy in the Lord,
and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land.[379]
You will be for Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.[380]
Kings will see you and rise up, princes will see and bow down,
because of the Lord, who is faithful,
the Holy One of God, who has chosen you.[381]
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
those who hope in Me will not be disappointed.[382]
Hear Me, you who know what is right,
you people who have My law in your hearts:
Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults.[383]
There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed,
or hidden that will not be made known.
What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight;
what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.[384]
Go! I am sending you like lambs among wolves.[385]
My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.[386]
But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door;
it desires to have you, but you must master it.[387]
Build up, build up, prepare the road!
Remove the obstacles out of the way for My people.[388]
I will make all My mountains a road,
and My highways will be raised up.[389]
Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.[390]
You are My witnesses, and My servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He.[391]
I am the First and I am the Last; apart from Me there is no God.[392]
I am the Lord, who has made all things,
who alone stretched out the Heavens,
who spread out the Earth by Myself.[393]
Remember these things, for you are My servant.
I have made you, you are My servant.[394]
It is I who made the Earth and created mankind upon it.[395]
Concerning things to come,
do you question Me about My children,
or give Me orders about the work of My hands?[396]
Surely, as I have planned it, so it will be,
and as I have purposed, so it will stand.[397]
As the rain and the snow come down from Heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the Earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is My word that goes out of My mouth:
It will not return to Me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.[398]
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.[399]
Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.[400]
Remain in Me, and I will remain in you.[401]
When a man believes in Me,
he does not believe in Me only, but in the One who sent Me.
When he looks at Me, he sees the One who sent Me.[402]
I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts Me;
and whoever accepts Me accepts the One who sent Me.[403]
As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent Me.
Night is coming, when no one can work.[404]
I am with you for only a short time,
and then I go to the One who sent Me.[405]
Do not hold on to Me, for I have not yet returned to the Father.[406]
You know the way to the place where I am going.[407]
Come![408]
Do not be afraid, little flock,
for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.[409]
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace.[410]
Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God; trust also in Me.[411]
You are the salt of the Earth.[412]
No weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from Me.[413]
Ask for whatever you want Me to give you.[414]
Since you are precious and honoured in My sight, and because I love you,
I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life.[415]
Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are Mine.[416]
As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you.[417]
You do not realise now what I am doing, but later you will understand.[418]
Let it be so now;
it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.[419]
You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.[420]
At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky,
and all nations of the Earth will mourn.
They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky,
with power and great glory.
And He will send His angels with a loud trumpet call,
and they will gather His elect from the four winds,
from one end of the Heavens to the other.[421]
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy.[422]
No one knows about that day or hour,
not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.[423]
But understand this:[424]
It is near, right at the door.[425]
The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.[426]
Therefore keep watch,
because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.[427]
